The record
The light arrives before the figure. It does not fall across objects. It passes through them, revealing outlines inside walls and shapes beneath closed eyelids. Witnesses describe wings, though they disagree about how many. They agree on one detail: the room becomes too quiet for anything alive.
The encounter
The presence tells you not to be afraid. You may feel an immediate, unreasonable need to obey. It knows your name without hearing it. It may describe a future in which you are grateful for what it is about to ask.
Do not confuse certainty with kindness. An angel may be more dangerous than a demon because it can cause suffering without believing it has done anything wrong.
The rules
Do not promise obedience before hearing the request. Do not assume that being chosen means being spared. Ask what will happen to the people left behind. If it calls your body a vessel, ask whether you will still be inside it.
The offer
The task may sound simple: carry a message, open a door, keep a light burning. The consequence may belong to someone who never agreed to take part.
In one recovered account, the witness refuses. The figure does not become angry. It merely turns toward the next house. That calm acceptance frightens the witness more than any threat could have.
Archivist’s warning
A halo tells you where the light comes from. It does not tell you what the light intends.
